Because we Black people tend to.. It’s been a month since the McKinney pool party incident. I do not consider myself a deep thinker, but I just wish WE would wake up and stop being so fucking lax about incidents like this. We need to stay mad, remind people, keep the dialogue going, unite. Sure, at least no one was killed [this time], but keep in mind that the same men that are now hired to protect our streets and serve our people are the same police force created-really not that long ago in history-to capture runaway slaves.

This is obvious satire [or is it?] but there is NOTHING BUT TRUTH in this skit! Jessica Williams is my girl! I chuckled, but it I’m deeply saddened that even a clearly unarmed Black child in a bikini is so disregarded and maltreated BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, HIRED TO PROTECT AND SERVE. There’s nothing wrong with talking about Beyoncé or discussing the latest clothing trends- I do it too! But we’re having these distracting, unimportant conversations way. Too. Often. Ballooning up trivial shit [precisely why I closed my Facebook account]. Constantly discussing REAL ISSUES will definitely get heavy, but Ignoring it doesn’t make it disappear.
Let’s stop forgiving and forgetting.
For those of you who know when to buckle down and go beyond the surface, I appreciate you. More than ever. Let’s continue to make waves by staying awake + spreading knowledge.

This is very real, there have been so many distractions, shifting the conversation away from what is really happening. I was watching the documentary on the history of the United States and it specifically stated how America tries to erase from mention all the wrong deeds its committed instead of owning the mistakes making amends. We can learn from our history but if we continue to let it disappear we are bound to make the same mistakes. Appreciate your thought and your post.

Thank you! I’m glad you get it. We can’t change the past but we can mold a better future. Oftentimes I feel we’re too far gone to create a better path, but I’m doing what I can. And I’m hopeful.

Come on Kelley. I know you can be deep when you want to.lol The video was kind of funny. I understand it’s just satire though. But the video makes some valid points. It’s okay to laugh and joke around. That’s a part of life. I go out with friends to the movies,go to sports bars and social events. I tackle very serious subjects on my blog so people think I’m super serious all day long.lol Not at all. It’s just I use my blog to vent about social issues I think are important in the black community. There’s a time to be serious…..and I time to play. It’s all about balance.

I try. Thank you. So many times I see one extreme or the other, one can’t have fun/relax or one is always having fun with their head in the clouds. That balance is so necessary.
