week 27 // 2015: don’t quit your daydream

Having big goals is HARD. Being a grown up is HARD. Being an artist can be hard as bleep -conflicting even- with your soul telling you to free yourself and BE yourself and share your gifts with the universe. Yet your mind is reminding you what society tells you to be/do: get a full-time job. Work hard. Maybe get promoted. Maybe [but oftentimes not] get praise and recognition and incentives for your hard work. Maybe get a raise. Maybe even get more vacation time! Oh!

But, of course, in an artist’s eyes, a good job is a fulfilling job. One that feeds the imagination’s immense, insatiable appetite. It’s not about the money or popularity, but, instead, the time spent working your butt off doing exactly what you love. THE DREAM.

The message. The purpose. The amazing feelings it gives you. That is the true reward and that is where my soul and mind meet. And agree.

I read a great, candid article by Zechariah Newman about the hard truths of chasing your dreams on mindbodygreen. I feel it! In short:

1. Your plan won’t work (at least, not the way you thought it would).

2. It will take longer than you think.

3. Persistence is everything.

4. There’s no such thing as perfect timing.

and, my favorite..

5. You’ll never get there. You’ll never reach your dreams. If you do, you’ll wind up with a new dream. The journey of dream chasing is the journey of life. You’ll always be shooting at a new target, always aiming higher, always adjusting, always stretching and growing. Your dreams won’t end until your life ends.
