It happens to guys, too.

It rarely makes headlines, but men are abused by their female partners as well. We all know domestic violence is a touchy topic, but when it’s the man being knocked down, verbally assaulted and spiritually broken, it often falls on deaf ears and blind eyes.

Men, more often than not, are assumed to be the stronger in a heterosexual relationship. In a traditional sense, they are hunters and gatherers. The providers. The protectors. And this traditional definition of a man is why I believe many men suffer silently, too embarrassed and ashamed to say something or walk away. Or they could just be ignorant to the signs of abuse from a woman.

Women are three times more likely to be killed or seriously injured by their male counterpart than vice versa. Though those numbers suggest a more dire need, they do not connote that women are completely innocent when it comes to domestic violence.

More than 830,000 men fall victim to domestic violence every year. A man is the victim of domestic abuse every 37.8 seconds in America. [mintpressnews.com]

  1. Some men are physically intimidated and embarrassed by that fact but I also believe a lot of men today just don’t know what they are allowed and not allowed to do in this post feminist PC confusion.

I’m with Judge Judy on this one. I would tell any son of mine that any woman who puts a fingernail on him is permitted to view the wench as Mike Tyson in his reply.

  2. I’ve heard of this sad news as well, but I think it doesn’t get reported as often because abused men are embarrassed that they will be thought of and called a sissy if they do, which is sad.
