week 21|2017

TEN BEHAVIORS OF GENUINE PEOPLE:

  1. They don’t seek attention.
  2. They’re not concerned with being liked.
  3. They can tell when others are full of shit.
  4. They are comfortable in their own skin.
  5. They do what they say and say what they mean.
  6. They don’t need a lot of stuff.
  7. They’re not thin-skinned.
  8. They’re not overly modest or boastful.
  9. They’re consistent.
  10. They practice what they preach.

I spied this on my ig feed and I wholeheartedly agree with this list. I’d like to add that genuine people are honest with themselves and, in turn, of course they feel freer to be honest with others. They also inspire others to walk their path and be truer to themselves.

Would you add anything to the list? Do you consider yourself genuine? With whom are/can you the most genuine? Do you ever, like myself, say fuck being real and just give everyone a fake representative because they don’t deserve to engage the real you?

  1. I can agree with this list although not being thin skinned can make you come off is impenetrable and unfeeling. Personally I feel most genuine when I’m by myself. I have yet to meet anyone with whom I can completely be genuine with and I suspect that such a person doesn’t exist.

    1. I get it! What I got from the author was that not being thin-skinned means you don’t sweat the small stuff; you don’t allow (false) opinions to consume you. But I totally see where you’re coming from as well.

I’m not sure if anyone can be completely genuine with anyone either. That might be scary. Or disgusting.

  2. I agree, except sometimes you can’t tell when others are full of shit. Especially when these other people are good at manipulating people. We can’t comprehend why someone would think/live this way, so we sometimes miss it.

  3. So why you make me scream at the screen tho..Like that scene with Lonnie Rashid Lynn, Jr., and Onika Tanya Maraj in the storage room in Barbershop: The Next Cut tho…

  4. I totally agree with this and I catch myself when I feel like I am “performing”… usually hits me in job interviews or meeting important peoplein business, etc. I have to tell myself “Its more important that you like them, if you are going to work together” works all the time.

    1. So true, Lisa! I remember the last interview I went on and I was thinking to myself, I don’t even like this guy. The mindset you speak of is vital but people often ignore those feelings and just hope to be liked (enough to get hired).

  5. I guess that I am just blunt. I have been told many times that there is a right place and time to say things. Recently someone told me that people don’t know how to take me. I feel like the truth is the truth no matter when or how it is said. But I am learning that that truth isn’t everybody elses’ truth. So I guess I have toned down the whole me in the last few months. Trying not to offend as much people. But that is a watered down version of me.

    1. Naaaah! Who are these people?? I understand it’s not the package, but the delivery, but I also believe that the people meant to be in your life will understand that your truths come from a good place. Not be rude or out of spite, but because everything else is sugar coated and the truth needs to be told by SOMEone!

Thanks for your testimony, Cliff. Sounds like some people in your life need to level up. I’m just sayin…

        1. YES! And they know you, so they know it comes from the heart. They know that you know that they are capable of more and you are there to help them do so. You sound like a good friend. Also gonna be emailing you with my latest new blog names

          1. Yes indeed! But I’ve been coming to the conclusion that most people don’t want help. They’re “cool” where they are at. In actuality they’re not, but have the nerve to be slight way jealous at the things you’re doing. But when you layout the plan, they take no action. I have been focusing on me more and more, leading by example. Real ones follow real ones.

          2. Exactly, Cliff! Good for you. I’m too old to be trying to figure people out or trying to help those that are comfortable in their state of stagnation. But the right people will rise with you. The others will fall away.
