week 39|2017: ten (painful) truths

1. The average human life is relatively short.
2. You will only ever live the life you create for yourself.
3. Being busy does NOT mean being productive.
4. Some kind of failure always occurs before success.
5. Thinking and doing are two very different things.
6. You don’t have to wait for an apology to forgive.
7. Some people are simply the wrong match for you.
8. It’s not other people’s job to love you; it’s yours.
9. What you own is not who YOU are.
10. Everything changes, every second.

Number two resonates with me the most. I’ve had many a conversation about the journey of life and I’ve found that a lot of people walk in fear-fear of the unknown and the judgmental eyes and ears and what they’ll say. But, as I say time and again, why not do you anyway since talkers will talk no matter what. Why look back and regret not speaking your mind or taking that spontaneous trip or job opportunity?

Which ones resonate with you most?

  1. 6 and 7…without a doubt. I’ve been making some strides with my own apologies and forgivness and not having expectations for the same. And 7 Ive always stood by…although its often hard to convince someone else of the same. But theres just no debating it.

      1. Preach! This reminds me of Elizabeth Gilbert’s quote: “the only thing more unthinkable than leaving was staying; the only thing more impossible than staying was leaving”. Sometimes, it’s a hella dilemma; but we do what we gotta do.

  2. Hey Ms. Kelley. (How you gon’ change the colors up on a sista?) LOL!!!

I also resonate with number 2. Even though I knew this on some level early in life, I did not realize just how true it is until I got older and started learning all the Universal Truths that folks tried to keep hidden from the masses.
You are lucky to have learned this sooner rather than later—not to mention never. LOL!!

  3. This is nothing but truth, and nothing but the truth Ms. Kelley! At the end of the day regardless of our external circumstances, we ultimately control the reality we live in. For the majority of us Jesus-fearing folk, that’s a hard pill to swallow.

    1. Riiiiiiiight! Luckily some understand that a lot is up to US and how much work we’re willing to put in instead of giving it all on Jesus. God-fearing or not, you have to do the work!

Thanks for the most accurate comment, MM!

  4. i stand by no 2 and 8. Am at a point where i know where am heading with my life and career and i have taken an opportunity that was right on my face that i couldn’t see for the past year. Am so working hard on what i want and my passion, am in my first steps but i finally know where am headed in life and i am making it great. As for no. 8. I taught myself to love myself with all my flaws and i don’t depend on other people to love me. If they don’t like me that’s their problem not mine 😀 . Cause i love me.

  5. Number 5 resonates with me the most! Once I saw it, I went “Preach Kelley!”. It is a struggle being an over-thinker, but I almost cannot help it. I overthink breakfast until its Lunch time, then I overthink Lunch until it is dinner. Haha! There is this quote I read recently that goes something like: “nothing is right or wrong, but thinking makes it so” (I can’t remember who said it). Thinking things through has its perks, but knowing where to draw the line, knowing where to pull the curtains down and swerve into action is priceless! I am working on it, actively.

Lovely post Kelley. Very thought-provoking. Thank you for this. ❤

    1. Of course! I’m glad you took something from it.

Overthinking can kill something that hasn’t even had the chance to manifest itself! That is how powerful thoughts are.
Thanks for reading and sharing your story!

  6. For me, it is a combo of 1 & 8. I’m aging, it seems quite rapidly since I passed 50. Whizz…. zoom… there it goes. So, I see now how other people’s opinions have built an image of me in my mind. This is because the older I get, the less young people think of me. Some days I feel invisible. Number 8 has become very, very important!

    1. My late grandmother always said time goes faster as you get older! I deem it’s true. Although this is all temporary, I hope you’re making the most of this short life. From the look of your blog, you’re spending time doing what you enjoy, which I love to see!

And I’m glad that #8 has become very, very important. I think many of us are taught to be accepted instead of accepting ourselves.
