Forgive anyone who has caused you pain or harm.
Keep in mind that forgiving is not for others. It is for you. Forgiving is not forgetting. It is remembering without anger. It frees up your power, heals your body, mind and spirit. Forgiveness opens up a pathway to a new place of peace where you can persist despite what has happened to you. – unknown
I find that it’s easier to forgive strangers than family. Usually. However I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive the man who attacked me nearly 40 years ago. Sexual assault is not something you can forgive.

I agree that certain acts, certain people do not warrant forgiveness. Ever.

It has never occurred to me that forgiveness is for myself and not the other person. I wish I had of read these words years ago. I probably wouldn’t have carried around all this emotional baggage. Thanks for the inspiration.

That too! But forgiveness is for you so you’re harboring all that residual pain and disappointment. That person isn’t taking up space in your mind like they once did. You can think of him/her without getting upset. Doesn’t mean you have to smile in their face or hit them up to see how they’re doing.

This! This right here is one of the biggest bullet points of my life. How can I face my Father in heaven who has forgiven me so, if I can’t forgive the man next to me. Forgiveness, an act full of so much godliness that it can change a man’s heart in an instant. It’s easy to be upset and to seek revenge, but if you want to show true strength, forgive your enemies. Great post, Kelley!
