Stop expecting you from other people.
This quote has been floating around social media for a few weeks now, and I always like it when I see it. I think many of our issues with others would cease to be issues if we allowed them to be who they are. We all have different upbringings, different work ethics, different genes! It’s useless to expect anyone—even our siblings and children—to act in ways we would. It’s silly to take offense when said person doesn’t act how we think is best. It’s even sillier to hope that someone suddenly changes on his own without you expressing your needs. Then you’re looking crazy because you’re mad that he can’t read your mind. C’mon now.
What you can do, though, is meet people where they are. Walk away from relationships that just don’t do it for you. Approach these relationships differently and quit your stressin’. Sure, it’d be nice if other people would share your compassion, consideration and thoughtfulness, but instead of expecting, enjoy those traits from people who give them freely.
❤
ABSOLUTELY 100% agree! As much as I can, I’ve stopped expecting me from others. It’s not gonna happen. Instead, I’ve gotten really good on working on myself, making sure my energy is what I want it to be, so that I can be ALIGNED with the “right” people and experiences. It’s so much better this way.

Funny,
I say this to my sister so many times. “you expect [insert whoever] to react that way because this is what YOU would do. Accept that he/she can only react the way they know how.” but I’ll be damned if I don’t turn around and conjure the same expectation from my teen. jeeeeeze
